- They have you download a 'remote access' software to fix the errors. Ironically I had been having problems. They say they are from Windows and that the FBI is identifying all computers with virus to 'get the virus' off everyone's computer. They walk you through showing the errors and all the IP addresses that have tried to get into your computer. They ask about doing any banking online and then show you the "Lifetime" program to remove virus' and the 3 levels of service (in the hundreds of dollars). Then they start to ratchet the price down, and it's clear they want that money 'right now'. When I told them I'm 70 yrs old, on social security and would need to wait for money....I noticed him putting a two ** password on something like a 'system screen'. I knew then that I'd been had. When I finally convinced him that I didn't have any money He started closing the tabs on my browser saying that he was now 'crashing' my system. I asked why he would do something like that and he said that the FBI said to do so for any computer that would not get 'protected' with their software. I yelled and hung up, unplugged the network cable and he called back asking 'why' I hung up on him. I told him he'd better 'uncrash' my system or I would contact the FBI, NSA, etc....but thought how sill that was, since I'd unplugged the network.Now my computer just sits there and will not turn on at all. I'll have to find out how to get into the system directory and get it to boot. But it is like a dead machine..... I have other computers, but the files on my computer are probably toast. Did I mention the voices were all mid-eastern.....and the call from Michigan leads me to believe they are Islam Terrorists...using the Internet to extort money out of people and bring down computer for the 'fun' of it. It's the way the guy's voice changed from friendly to vicious when he start closing the tabs and saying he was now crashing my computer that made me want to jump through the phone and slit HIS throat!
